Mission Change
The New State of this Blog...
Brady and Lori started this blog back in 2022 to chronicle our move to Portugal. We’ve enjoyed sharing our experiences, right from the beginning, when we spent some months traveling around the mainland, knowing that we’d NEVER move to a small island. Ha!
We are so glad you’ve been following us, and we’ve been happy to have you along for the ride! Now that we’re coming up on 2 years in Madeira, we have less to share on a regular basis.
While we were preparing our minds and lives to relocate to the East Coast, dealing with an insurance disaster at our old house, then actually getting in the car, driving east, flying to the Continent, seeing the Island for the first and second time, pushing tons of paper , living in a basement, packing a crate and finally moving and adjusting to the new world of Portuguese and Madeiran culture—take a breath— we were Very Busy.
But we’ve reached a point in our transition where there is less of interest to report. But great stuff will happen, and we’ll post some pictures and videos.
Spring is coming, with Carnival in February, the Flower Festival in April, and so many festivals celebrating every variety of food and liquor, Agriculture, Saints, History of the Island, History of Portugal, so we won’t be gone for good, but posts will be less frequent. However, we promise that, when we do post, there will be plenty of cool pictures.
You’ve been great followers and we’re grateful to those of you who took the time to like and comment and otherwise respond. And, definitely, those of you who want to keep in touch, we’re happy to connect!
We’ll leave you with some recent photos and a video from the beach in Machico on the east coast of the island, where we spent my birthday, yesterday. We were dressed for mid-January because it’s been quite chilly on the island (and our house was pretty chilly in the morning). Mid-day at the beach looked like this:
We had to remove fleece tops and wool socks and we were still HOT! After 3-4 chilly days, this was a surprise!
And then, a special birthday lunch!!

That fish was done to perfection!!
And some pictures from the hike the day before and a sunrise from our varanda.

Farewell for now from Madeira.
Thanks for following!

Thanks for all your posts always very interesting! Will look forward to your less frequent posts in the future!!!
That dinner made my stomach growl! But kindly do not speak of cold. We did not get above 10 degrees F today. We're making our sinks drip to try to save our pipes. It's a miracle my electric car had enough range to get me to work. EV's are great for around town but a challenge for road trips particularly in the cold. The beach looked great. But nothing can top the seaside pool Brady took me to.
